Mind. Body. Spirit.
Hi, my name is Elizabeth Tayem LPC Associate and I'm originally from Cameroon, Africa. Now, I'm here to help you!
Elizabeth Tayem: My Beginnings
I have always felt a deep spiritual connection between the mind, our bodies, the food we eat and our mental health. That belief was taken to the next level when immediately following the birth of our 4th child I began to suffer from post-partum preeclampsia, a very serious blood pressure issue that typically affects the mother before giving birth. I spent two weeks in the ICU and I didn't believe I was going to make it and made plans for that eventuality.
My Road to Bigger Things!
But God had other plans for me and I somehow made a recovery. The doctor sent me home with a prescription but I was still not fully recovered. At my two-week checkup I was sobbing and begged my doctor for another way. I wanted to effect my continued healing in some manner other than medication and what he told me changed everything for me. He said, "you are one of the very few patients who has ever asked me for a road to recovery other than the quick-fix route. I typically prescribe medication because when I tell them to exercise, they won't do it. When I tell them to improve their diet, they won't do it." I told him I was ready and I would do whatever he told me to do.
He then said that, "70% of the time a blood pressure problem will go away with better nutrition and exercise." That's all I needed to hear. I felt as if scales had fallen from my eyes! A 70% chance is pretty good odds and I was going to give this approach my best and continued efforts.
I went home and started walking every day. I began to read about nutrition and I changed my diet. My interest and understanding about the foods God has given us to eat and improve our health grew. It has worked for me and countless others. What I learned that day in my doctor's office has fueled a drive in me to help others reclaim their health without more pills.
I'm not against medication, modern medicine. I just believe that there are more natural ways to approach health and that medication should be looked at only as a last resort.
How May I Help You?
I enjoy working with couples and families (individuals, too) and have a soft place in my heart for new moms and the problems that may accompany that time in our lives. Obviously I feel a direct connection with immigrants from the African continent since, as I mentioned, I am from Cameroon. However, I am delighted to work with couples, families, and individuals from all nationalities. I speak English, Pigin and several other languages, so I'm sure we can find one through which we may speak to each other.
My health is the foundation that holds every other part of my life together. If I lose my health then everything will collapse. What we are doing to our bodies, our health, as a society is not working and I'd be honored to work with you and see if we can help you heal your body, mind and your spirit with methods other than medication.
