A Word From Paige Rhodes LPC Associate
Working With Associates
Authentic. Confident. Forward-Looking.
I'd like to tell you just a little bit about myself, Paige Rhodes LPC Associate, and why I do what I do. I'm originally a Southern California girl; High Desert area. Moved to Texas after a brief stay in Arizona and couldn't be happier.
What Drives Me
I lost my mom to a mental illness that she chose to medicate with drugs and alcohol. I lost my brother to his own mental health challenges and the bad decisions he made with his demons. Looking back, I did the best I could to prevent it all but let's face it, family can only do so much.
I was the smart kid in the family. I was reminded often and the bar was set very high. As a result I have several Masters degrees and a drive to succeed that has served me well so far. "Smart kid in the family syndrome" creates a fear-of-failure environment that can be really distracting and very destructive. It's the fear of failure that comes with it that I'm working to eliminate.
But, out of chaos comes order and the lessons I learned from my family have fueled a passion to work with other people to try and be the change-catalyst for them that I wish my family could have experienced. Connecting with other people and contributing in a positive way to their trip through life is what gets me out of bed in the morning.
What Have I Learned That Might Help You?
I simply wasn't the right person to effect the change my mom and brother needed. More importantly, I've learned from that experience that if they're not wanting or willing to talk or get help then nothing will happen no matter how much you love them.
I no longer have to be the smart person, I don't have to excel or be counted a failure. Ultimately, it makes you question everything, including how much time you've wasted chasing things no one really cares about. I think I'm well past that now but I'm still working on it. In this journey towards finding out who Paige is and connecting with people, I’ve learned I just need to be Paige.
I know that in everyone's journey I'm not the piece that changes it all, but I can be a part of a process. Being involved in the process and watching you grow is exciting.
My Wish For You
A mental health issue can be a long, lonely journey. I want you to know that you're not alone and you really are "somebody".
Yeah, I wish the right "someone" had been able to talk with my mom and my brother. Things might have turned out differently for all of us. I can't save the world and I'll probably never invent "The Cancer-Curing Potato", but I just may be that "somebody" that can help you. I'm Paige Rhodes LPC Associate and I'll bet we can get there together but you have to want to, and allow it.
