A Word From Kathleen

Working With Associates

Hi I'm Kathleen Bedard and I focus on children, teens, and families in the area of grief and the support that's needed during those times. Because of my own family history, I have a special place in my heart for adolescents and the problems they face during that period of their lives. I do this work both individually and as a family unit.

What Makes Me Tick?

I've been interested in what makes people do the things that they do and the connections between our thoughts and our behaviors all of my life, especially the biology behind it all. My keen interest in that arena is probably what led me to teach high school biology and chemistry for 10 years.

During that period, my husband and I raised three sons. Raising boys is a lot like taming lions; the lion-tamer is usually smaller than the lions, the lions are louder, their behavior can be erratic, very physical and is governed by rules of the jungle the tamer doesn't naturally comprehend. But the lions respect and obey a fair and confident tamer and I like that.

My Passion

Raising boys to become good men is an honor and a great task for any woman. Mom's learning how to deal with the incredibly linear thought processes and emotions of little males while they are looking to her for the example of a proper, Godly woman, a model they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. They will look for and expect that model in the woman they choose as their wife so it's no small pair of shoes to fill!

Teaching school provided me a wonderful theater in which to observe behaviors and it required me to interact with them. While I got along very well with both genders I will admit I was partial to the young men when I began teaching and that was a good thing because my husband and I would soon be raising three sons of our own. I spoke their languages.

Early on I began to notice a disturbing trend towards depression and suicide amongst the adolescent boys. Society's messages to young men were, and still are, attacking and eroding the male psyche. As the mom of three young men, that really bothered me and so the next step in my personal journey gained momentum!

Putting It All Together

I find it fascinating, at this stage of my life, to stand back and look at how God puts stepping stones in front of us that lead us to places we never would have imagined on our own. My practice is the current manifestation of the steps that have made up my life; a keen interest in biology and the sciences behind our behaviors, the connection between our thoughts and behaviors, and the development of adolescents into adulthood.

I'm excited to see what God does with me through my practice. I believe He's brought me this far to help your family and your sons and daughters. Let me give you the benefit of my vast experience and see what we can do together.
