Quiet Time For Yourself

As you listen to “Auld Lang Syne” being sung on New Year’s Eve, the famous “life gone by” lyrics, lament a soft farewell to the past, while bringing new hope for better things in the new year. As you review your 2014 year, consider the value in reading some good books from authors who have the “Been-There-Done-That” T-shirt. Reading is intimate. It is personal. It can help reconnect you, refocus you, rewire you, and renew your emotional energy from within.

Establishing a mandatory quiet time can be challenging, yet, a necessary component to establish some “YOU” time. Here are the things you can quit that is guaranteed to free up time. You must give yourself permission to do this.Keep this 45 minute time frame consistent while you do the following assignment. It can be once a week, every day, every other day… you decide. No one in your world, may interrupt. Make a Do Not Disturb sign, if you have too!
QUIT your technology obsession. STOP IT. Do you really need to be online all the time?
QUIT saying “yes” to things that can be easily delegated to others.
QUIT watching mindless TV shows.
QUIT having an in-depth texting-discussion-wars with people on your cell phone.
QUIT the phone altogether…Power It Down (for 45 minutes)! That is why you have voicemail.
QUIT the incessant postings on Facebook/LinkedIn. Power down that laptop, iPad, please.
QUIT any other mindless stuff and your 45 minutes will reappear in a hurry!

PICK one of the following books (yes they are all on Amazon):
1. The Freaks Shall Inherit The Earth, by Chris Brogan
2. Get Off You “But”, by Dr. Sean Stephenson
3. Your Prize Fighter Day, by Ben Newman
4. The Art of Being UnMistakeable, by Srinivas Rao
5. Carried By Angels, by Phillip Hatfield
6. Finding Your Voice, by Joel Boggess
7. Book of your own Choosing – the one you have always wanted to read.

While reading your selected book, have a yellow highlighter. Highlight the stuff that are significant takeaways for you. Answer the following questions:
1. What are 5 takeaways from the book that you learned about yourself?
2. What are 5 things the author challenges you to think about or do?
3. How did the author deal with failures and successes?
4. What do you want to change? What are you willing to do to get there?

YOU Matter

Carving out some quiet time for you is a key resolution for the New Year. If you could only have stayed in Kindergarten daily routine with that 45 minute nap time on our own special mat… Wouldn’t you feel a whole lot better about things?

Have a safe and blessed holiday season.
Celebrate the things you can.
Acknowledge the disappointments or challenges you may be experiencing.
Be good to yourself this season.
Have few regrets, and remember, that things always happen for a reason and it is difficult to find the silver lining in the trials and tribulatons. Easier said than done, I know!
Put your trust and full investment toward the unique and unmistakable journey of YOU.
